The Yarra Valley–based winery looked to fruit from Nagambie in 2019 and, in particular, this little-known grape more usually associated with Portuguese fortified wine production. Strikes a sinewy, medium-bodied and savoury pose which is immediately different from the usual red grape crowd. Briar, acacia, red cherry, earth, prune and wood smoke aromas. Despite some high-ish acidity, the wine is rich in ripe fruit and fills the mouth before finishing with a flourish of dry, savoury tannins.. An interesting flavour sensation any way you look at it.
